Pediatric Physical Therapy

Pediatric Physical Therapy assists in early detection of health problems and uses a wide variety of modalities to treat disorders in the pediatric population. These therapists are specialized in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of infants, children, and adolescents with a variety of congenital, developmental, neuromuscular, skeletal, or acquired disorders / diseases. Treatments focus on improving gross and fine motor skills, balance and coordination, strength and endurance, as well as cognitive and sensory processing / integration. Children with developmental delays, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, or torticollis, may be treated by Pediatric Physical Therapists.

Pediatric Occupational Therapists engage the children in therapeutic play so that they can improve all of the necessary skills that are needed in order to fully participate in the activities at home and at school.

Grayslake Rehab’s Pediatric Therapists are committed to the well-being of your child. They provide a thorough evaluation of your child, a customized treatment plan, and strategies that family members can use to help the child outside of the clinic. Treatments and strategies are derived from a combination of frames of reference, such as Sensory Integration (SI) and Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), which focuses on gross and fine motor skills, visual motor and perceptual skills, communication and social skills, and the ability to optimally process sensory information. The application of these specialized techniques assists your child’s development and help them to:

  • Increase attention to task
  • Become independent in self-care activities (dressing, eating, brushing teeth, etc.)
  • Cultivate his / her ability to follow directions and transition between activities
  • Improve motor coordination for play and handwriting
  • Enhance tolerance and enjoyment of sensory experiences
  • Build interaction and communication with peers

Parents are the Experts – You know more about your children than anyone else. We rely on your expertise in order to better treat your child.
